Elopement has a historical reputation for secrecy and running away. The modern reality is different. Today, elopement means choosing a small, intentional, deeply personal ceremony — just the two of you and your witnesses — over a large event you feel obligated to have.

It is not about avoiding commitment. It is about getting married in a way that reflects your actual relationship, without the pressure of performing for a crowd.

The package at a glance

The Legal Elopement at Our Randburg Office costs R3,200 and takes place at our Randburg office. It is for the couple and two witnesses, and includes the legal declarations, the option to share vows and exchange rings, registration at Home Affairs, a handwritten abridged marriage certificate on the day, and a marriage status check. The legal minimum — and why it is enough

South African law requires two adult witnesses for a legal marriage. That is the minimum — and for many couples, it is exactly right. You, your partner, two people you trust, and a marriage officer who treats the moment with the care it deserves.

It is a legal marriage

An elopement includes the complete legal ceremony and registration process. Your assigned registered marriage officer confirms the legal pathway, completes the relevant register, and submits it through Home Affairs. Foreign-national couples must complete the required Home Affairs interview process before the ceremony.

Documents you need

An elopement follows the same document and witness requirements as the applicable legal pathway. Two witnesses can be arranged if needed. See the documents checklist for the starting list.
