Three scenarios

How the process works depends on which of these three scenarios applies to you:

1. One South African national, one foreign national. The most common situation. The foreign national needs additional documentation; the South African partner follows the standard process.
2. Two foreign nationals marrying in South Africa. Both parties require the additional foreign-national documentation. This is possible but takes more planning.
3. A foreign national who is a permanent resident of South Africa. Permanent-resident status changes the document pathway. We will confirm the applicable requirements before booking.

What a foreign national needs

For the YWC Randburg workflow, each foreign-national pathway must be checked before Home Affairs booking. The checklist includes the required BMD information, originals, correct supporting documents, and a Letter of No Impediment unless the documented rules for that jurisdiction allow an alternative.

Additional documents required for foreign nationals

• Valid passport

  A current, valid passport is required as proof of identity. It must not be expired on the date of the ceremony.

  The original letter from the correct government authority is required for the Randburg booking unless a documented jurisdiction-specific alternative applies. US citizens need the federal-letter route. UK citizens need the Home Office letter or the applicable affidavit route. Confirm the route with us before requesting documents.

  Bring the original visa, permit, or permanent-residence evidence that applies to your status. We will confirm the exact supporting documents needed for the booking.
