Someone else leading the ceremony?

If a friend, family member or celebrant will be doing the speaking at your wedding, a marriage officer usually does not need to attend the celebration itself. The two of you and your two witnesses can visit our Randburg office during the week before the wedding to complete the legal declarations and sign the marriage documents. We then register the marriage at Home Affairs, while your chosen person leads the ceremony on the wedding day.

This uses the Legal Elopement package. You are welcome to exchange vows and rings at our office, or you can save them for the celebration itself. For most couples this is the simplest and most practical way to combine a legal marriage with a ceremony led by someone you love.

Weekend and public holiday pricing

Legal Elopements and Mini Ceremonies held on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday cost R5,400. This rate applies only to those two packages. We will confirm the applicable rate for your date when you get in touch.

What happens with the legal side

Every package covers the applicable marriage-officer registration process. Foreign-national pathways include a required Home Affairs interview before the ceremony.

  • Marriage registration process. Your assigned registered marriage officer completes and submits the relevant register.
  • A handwritten abridged marriage certificate on the day. Your proof of marriage is issued immediately, with no waiting period.
  • A marriage status check. We confirm your registration has been processed correctly.

The Full Ceremony takes place at your venue or home and includes marriage-officer travel of up to 100 km there and back from our Randburg office. The Mini Ceremony and All-in-One Garden Wedding take place at our Craighall garden, and the Legal Elopement takes place at our Randburg office, so no marriage-officer travel is needed for those three packages. We also travel further afield for Full Ceremonies – to Hartbeespoort, Magaliesburg, Rustenburg, and across North West and Mpumalanga – with an extended travel surcharge. Can we get married on a weekend or public holiday?

Yes. We work on weekends and public holidays, and the legal requirements are the same regardless of the day. Legal Elopements and Mini Ceremonies held on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday cost R5,400.

Can a friend or family member lead our ceremony?

Yes. Your chosen person can lead the celebration while the legal side is completed with us. The two of you and your two witnesses complete the legal declarations at our Randburg office during the week before the wedding, using the Legal Elopement package, and we register the marriage at Home Affairs.

How many guests can each package accommodate?

The Mini Ceremony accommodates up to six guests and the All-in-One Garden Wedding up to ten. The Legal Elopement is for the couple and two witnesses. The Full Ceremony has no package guest limit – the practical limit is set by your venue.
